U.S. Liaison
 |
The FAWCO U.S. Liaison helps to coordinate FAWCO’s work with other overseas advocacy organizations and represents FAWCO’s positions in Washington during Overseas Americans Week, for example, or when legislation is drafted or introduced that directly affects Americans living and working overseas. Since 2001, the Liaison’s major focus has been the election reform legislation successively introduced in Congress to faciliate and harmonize voting procedures for “UOCAVA” voters (both the military and overseas civilians). Since 2007, FAWCO has worked with the Americans Abroad Caucus, first to increase its membership and second to inform Caucus members of issues (the inability for overseas Americans to communicate with their legislators, support for important voting and tax legislation, etc.) important to overseas Americans. At the present time, the U.S. Liaison is a member of the Advisory Board of Overseas Vote Foundation, and Co-Vice Chair of the newly formed Alliance for Military and Overseas Voting Rights (AMOVR).
