Charitable Giving and Gifts for the Holidays with an Education Twist
List curated by the Education Team
Searching for a unique way to express your love or appreciation for someone special this holiday season? Look no further than the list below, which highlights not only The FAWCO Foundation, but also other education-related giving opportunities from around the world. From our homes to yours, the Education Team wishes you peace and good health as we close out 2020, and hope as we embrace 2021.
The FAWCO Foundation (TFF) – Designate your funds to the Target Project S.A.F. E., Education Awards, Development Grants or the General Fund, and TFF will send a card to the person you are honoring! (The FAWCO Foundation is the philanthropic arm of FAWCO.) https://www.fawcofoundation.org/
Educate a Girl – Camfed (originally called the Campaign for Female Education) helps girls in African countries get an education. One of the world’s best bargains is the chance to help a girl in a country like Ghana, Malawi or Zimbabwe go to school: a year in high school costs $150, elementary school about $30. https://camfed.org/
The Third Eye Mom – This is a great overall site to shop for gifts and goods that are produced to support various causes around the world. Gifts include locally made items – jewelry, scarves, handbands, shoes and many different types of handicrafts. Whatever your favorite cause, you can probably find something to buy that’s related to it mentioned here.
UNICEF Shop – UNICEF sells a lot more than just Christmas cards these days to raise money for women and children around the world. You can shop to buy specific items (i.e., 1000 pencils for a school for $29; a solar lamp for $29; backpacks for five kids for $18) or items such as scarves, jewelry and many other handicrafts. https://www.unicefusa.org/help/shop
Noonday Collection – Started in Uganda, Noonday is a business that uses fashion to create meaningful opportunities around the world.
Room to Read – Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. https://www.roomtoread.org/
Send a Young Person to College – OneGoal, which mentors low-income students in the United States, helps them graduate from high school and succeed in college. OneGoal ensures that Black lives matter: 96 percent of participants are students of color, and it provides a bridge for them to complete high school and get a solid start in college. https://www.onegoalgraduation.org/
SAE Foundation – Every donation will help a young learner access hands-on STEM experiences and thrive – in school or at home. Donations help to continue providing free/low-cost STEM education and increase student diversity in STEM subjects as we all navigate this challenging new learning environment. https://www.saefoundation.org/
