UN Sustainable Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being

FAWCO supports UN Sustainable Development Goal #3

Health Team

Many FAWCO members contribute their time and talents to help women who have undergone surgery for breast cancer treatment, by creating and donating heart pillows to make their recovery more comfortable. The Health Team promotes heart pillow projects, and encourages FAWCO members to improve their health and well-being through the Clubs in Motion effort to tally distances walked by local club walking groups.

Malaria Networks Project

Before FAWCO launched the Target Program, we were actively working to support the achievement of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals through the Malaria Networks Project.

From 2005 – 2007, FAWCO members addressed the global challenge of reducing poverty and improving lives by encouraging FAWCO members to make a significant commitment to worldwide malaria prevention. Over $100,000 was raised for the purchase of insecticide treated bed nets, and an additional $40,000 for integrated malaria prevention

“From Vision to Action: NGOs Promoting Health in a Globalized World”

FAWCO was honored to be invited to a meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) along with officials and select NGOs on February 23, 2006 as part of a health advisory group. WHO is seeking partnerships and alliances with NGOs to create sustainable action in improving world health.

As a result of this meeting, a plan of action was drawn up. FAWCO's efforts in malaria prevention were noted by WHO in the publication: "From Vision to Action: NGOs Promoting Health in a Globalized World." This publication is in support of the Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World.

Besides information on the charter, the booklet features best practices of 27 selected NGOs. FAWCO is the second NGO listed with information on our organization and our NetWorks initiative. This initiative demonstrated FAWCO's commitment to improving global health: our partnership with BioVision to support an integrated approach to malaria prevention in Nyabondo and Malindi, Kenya.
