Educate a Girl – Camfed (originally called the Campaign for Female Education) helps girls in African countries get an education. One of the world’s best bargains is the chance to help a girl in a country like Ghana, Malawi or Zimbabwe go to school: a year in high school costs $150, elementary school about $30.https://camfed.org/
Slum2School – Suggested by Abi Daré, author of Girl with the Louding Voice, this organization “work(s) directly with communities to design and implement impact programs that are uniquely suited to meet their needs while ensuring that access to quality education is ultimately provided for the children.” Two of their programs, the I am More Campaign and the Virtual Learning Program, reach 15,000 underserved students worldwide. Safe School Initiative of the Mwangaza Education Centre – Recommended by FAUSA member and author Juliet Cutler, this initiative serves students in Tanzania. Juliet notes: “It has been a difficult period in many respects . . . COVID-19 has led to a lot of suffering, including economic suffering that has led to more child marriages. Families get a bride price to feed themselves. That said, the Safe Initiative is doing some amazing work around community engagement and has made a real difference in the lives of the young women it serves. One young woman in the program scored among the top students in the country on her national exams earlier this year and was selected to begin medical school last month.”
