Hope Beyond Displacement has literally changed the face of CRP
Hello everyone!
I’m so looking forward to seeing everyone in The Hague and can’t wait to let you know more about the impact FAWCO is making throughout our community as a result of Hope Beyond Displacement activities.
Hope Beyond Displacement has literally changed the face of CRP. The many project activities take place daily around the center—from the lively discussions in the men’s family violence prevention and women’s empowerment sessions, to the laughs and focused concentration as our beautician trainees try out their first manicure, to the happy singing I hear every afternoon as the Super Girls practice for their graduation ceremony. The project has played a huge role in activating our center, through a variety of offerings women and girls can take part in but also in bringing about a great sense of energy and community as the many participants bond, build friendships, and gain confidence from the new skills they are learning.
Right now we’re finishing up our second sets of 3-month Women’s Empowerment trainings and Violence Prevention sessions for men and are coordinating participant sign ups for the next set that will start up in a few weeks. Our first groups of Super Girls will finish up their 6-month programs at the end of this month, complete with a graduation ceremony they are all eagerly anticipating. Our first groups of computer training participants are also finishing up their 6-month training, and we are amazed at how far they’ve come in that time. So it’s been very busy! All of these activities will continue, and CRP staff is now beginning to prepare for the next groups that will start up.
It’s also been really great to see the transformation that is taking place among CRP’s staff members and volunteers as they learn new ways of working and creative approaches through the project. Every afternoon, I peek into the Super Girls activities and am amazed to see the professional level that our refugee volunteers have attained in working with the girls and bringing out the best in them.
I’ll be sharing stories and more information about the project during two workshop sessions at the conference in The Hague and am really excited to connect with you and tell you more. As always, thank you, FAWCO, for making this happen! We are thrilled with the results and transformations we are seeing every day.
