February was “Water Month” for the American Women’s Group of Languedoc Roussillon

In addition to the fall activities that revolved around the theme of water (a walk with the hiking group along the aqueduct in Castries and a visit with the outings group to the Montpellier water source and water treatment plant) AWGLR named February “Water Month”.
First off, during the month of February we blogged about water on our club blog. There were entries such as A Water Poem, The Inside Story of Bottled Water, Water jokes, photos of Water in all its forms, and of course entries about the FAWCO target program and the Wells for Clean Water project in Cambodia…only to name a few!
On February 19th we also held a Soup Tasting Fundraiser with all profits going towards the Wells for Clean Water project. There were 6 soups for everyone to try (we brought them out 2 by 2) and pie for dessert (including a cherry pie of course to celebrate President’s Day weekend). One of our attendees also walked away with the door prize…a watering can. It was truly a fun and delicious evening.
Finally, we also held a film night to watch “Water Makes Money”. The film “Water Makes Money” is a 90 minute documentary about the biggest water companies and the resistance against them. It opens a debate of public vs. private, focusing mainly on what is happening in several German and French cities, including Montpellier. During the film we nibbled on some delicious food prepared by club members and the film was followed by our own discussion and debate.
