Writers Workshops
Happening NOW! BIG News!

When you asked us for writing workshops at  the “Literacy is our Legacy-A Celebration” announcement during the March 2024 FAWCO Interim Meeting in Porto, we listened. And now through cooperation with one of the leading organizations for women writers, FAWCO is giving our writers access to top-of-the line writing workshops.  We are excited to announce that the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG) will offer a 1-year complimentary membership to IWWG for FAWCO and FAUSA Members!

IWWGThe International Women’s Writing Guild looks forward to a mutually beneficial partnership with FAWCO to support women writers around the world. Founded in 1976 in New York City by a Holocaust survivor, the International Women's Writing Guild has been a pioneering advocate for women's voices, beginning during the women’s liberation movement. IWWG also holds special consultative status with ECOSOC,focusing on women's rights, especially through writing. Our mission is to provide a supportive community for women writers, bringing them tools and opportunities to tell their stories.

In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, IWWG expanded its membership through global partnerships to reach women who might otherwise be isolated or silenced. We also increased our online workshop presence. Our current collaborations include: the Asian American Women’s University in Bangladesh, the SingaporeWriters’ Group, the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, AMKA (Kenya), and the University of Ghana. We also launched an intergenerational mentorship program in partnership with various schools and community-based organizations in the U.S.

A 501.c.3 not for profit organization.

IWWG offers online workshops, working in different genres and at different levels. They offer “free writes” and “open mics”-fun activities that allow members to exercise their “writing muscles”.

They have an extensive catalog of workshops presented by top instructors, editors and writers. As an IWWG member you receive special discounted rates for workshops, activities and events.

To get an idea of the quality of their work, They are offering FAWCO members  a complimentary memoir workshop led by acclaimed IWWG instructor Judith Huge. Judith's workshop, True Stories Well Told is designed to help you unlock your personal stories, guiding you through the process of memoir writing with her expert techniques and compassionate approach.
The date of this fall workshop will be announced soon!

What’s Next

FAWCO and IWWG will collaborate on an anthology of works from both memberships. Their next anthology will be on the environment and climate change. IWWG will take the lead and reach out to FAWCO when they have a timeline for accepting potential anthology submissions. We will work with IWWG to get the timing and details about how FAWCO members can participate.

What we Hope for the Future

IWWG will consider hosting an international conference at one of FAWCO’s European locations.

A very special thanks to Clydette de Groot, AWG and AAWE member who is a results-oriented person with deep connections in the “book world” and Connie Phlipot, AWA Vienna who will be the lead from the Literacy is our Legacy team for Writers Workshops, in establishing this partnership.
