The CSW64 Bureau convened on Monday March 9 for a procedural meeting. All side events and NGO CSW Forum parallel events were cancelled. The opening session is available to view on UN Web TV.
At the March 9 session, the Commission members voted unanimously to ratify a political declaration reiterating support for the gender equality action plan adopted at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action "the most comprehensive and transformative global agenda for gender equality and women's empowerment."
The CSW64 Political Declaration reaffirms that gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls are crucial to progress on all the SDGs in the UN Decade of Action (2020-2030).
