10 October 2002
The House of Representatives passed the "Help America Vote Act of 2002" at 10:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, October 10 by a vote of 357 to 48.
In its unanimous agreement to the Conference report, the House put its stamp on the Conference Committee's language which resolved all earlier differences between the House and Senate versions of the important election reform legislation. The {ln:Title VII on Voting Rights 'provisions concerning overseas voters}, therefore, were passed intact.
Both the House and Senate have now adjourned for the Columbus Day weekend.
The Senate will take up the bill at 11:00 on Tuesday, October 15 and swift passage is expected.
The bill should very quickly reach the president's desk to be signed into law.
Happy Columbus Day!!
