Calling on overseas Georgians for two run-off elections on January 5, 2021

Register buttonThe US national election is nearly over, but two races remain for people in Georgia: run-off elections on January 5, for both of the state’s seats in the US Senate. These are important in themselves, but are also very likely to determine which political party has control of the Senate, which will affect the whole country.

So, after taking at least a couple of days to rest up from the general election, FAWCO Members and Clubs should reach out to overseas Georgians, and help them to determine the winners of the runoffs.

Here’s the information you need.

  1. Georgians who are already registered to vote in 2020 do not need to re-register for the runoffs; your existing registration is sufficient.
  2. Georgians who did not register to vote in 2020, and those who are 17 years old now but will turn 18 before January 5, do need to register for the runoffs. The deadline is December 7. Remember to request that Georgia send your ballot to you by email. You can use the Georgia Secretary of State (SOS) website, to register, or our partners, the US Vote Foundation and the Federal Voter Assistance Program. The SOS website also allows you to check the status of your registration and track your ballot.
  3. Georgia is expected to send out the ballot for the runoffs – a state write-in absentee ballot (SWAB) – about November 18. To be counted, your ballot must be postmarked by January 5, and must reach your local election official by January 8. Registered mail is recommended.
