In a letter to their colleagues in the House of Representatives, Americans Abroad Caucus Co-Chairs Carolyn Maloney and Mick Mulvaney are urging the Treasury Secretary and the IRS Commissioner to adopt the recommendation of National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson regarding simplifying FATCA reporting requirements for Americans abroad.
On April 13, the Taxpayer Advocate recommended eliminating from FATCA reporting all accounts held in the country in which the taxpayer is a bona fide resident, a position FAWCO, AARO and ACA have held for several years.
Representatives Maloney and Mulvaney are asking their fellow legislators to support this recommendation and become co-signers on their letter to Treasury and the IRS.
We urge you to ensure that your legislator has seen the “Dear Colleague” letter and the accompanying letter to Secretary Lew and Commissioner Koskinen. The more they hear from their constituents that this is indeed an important issue, the more likely they are to co-sign and show support.
Find your legislator’s addresses at: www.house.gov and simply forward the Maloney/Mulvaney letter, saying that you are a constituent (remember always to give your US voting address) and this is important to you!
