Dear Michele,
The Foundation Gala Dinner with the theme, "Over The Rainbow" took place on Friday March 23rd at the Hotel Burlington, located in the Dublin, Ireland. The conference delegates and guests, reached deep into their pockets for the charity auctions, lucky dip and raffle prizes.
We were greeted at the entrance to the rainbow with a drink and then bidding started for the silent auction. While we enjoyed a lovely multi-course dinner we were entertained by a group of Irish dancers in bright costumes, followed by an international women's chorus singing a variety of well know songs.
Foundation President Melissa Mash, welcomed our guests and the evening began with something new, the drawing for the much sought after emerald ring! This was won by a member of the AWC Dublin, Conference Co-Chair Patti Meek. Talk about luck of the Irish!
The live auction was met with enthusiastic bids. Our members were truly generous this year providing many wonderful get-away locations to bid on.
Thanks once again to our favorite auctioneer Sandra Gogel, member of AWG Paris and Suzanne Wheeler, AWC Antwerp for conducting such a successful auction.
Over $36,000 was raised from the auctions, lucky dip, emerald ring and quilt raffles and charm sales.
The outgoing FAWCO Foundation board should be proud of the success of the Over The Rainbow event which will allow us to make yet another important impact on the many worthy programs supported by The Foundation, our members and our sponsors.
Thank you everyone and we hope to see many of you in Bern in 2013.

FRIENDSHIP QUILT 2013- "TIME"
We never seem to have enough of it, and yet it is infinite. As volunteers, it is our most precious gift. So what does Time mean to you? A musical metronome, exploding supernovas, your children's growth marked on the kitchen door frame, Swiss precision?
For this year's quilt, please make your blocks 6.5" square. Use 100% cotton fabric, no poly blends. No embellishments that can't be sewn through on the machine. Again, use any technique that you enjoy: pieced, appliqué, embroidery etc.
Colors: Any kind of blue -purple -violet, maybe with some citrus-y accent in lemon or lime. (I really like Hoffman's Bali batiks, but don't feel obliged to use them. They're expensive!)
You can participate in the quilt even if you don't sew. Just send a square of fabric with signature! The signature is important, this is a friendship quilt. Embroider it if you really want to, but it's enough to write with a permanent archive-quality pen. (I recommend Pigma Micron 0.5 mm.) Please avoid putting the date on your blocks.
If you need some inspiration, here's a fairly simple Hourglass block (with thanks to http://www.quilterscache.com ). You need to cut the square patches 2.5" and sew accurate quarter-inch seams.
Deadline: October 10, 2012

The FAWCO Foundation Board Nominating Committee
2013-2015
A new nominating committee was appointed at the Dublin conference in March to identify and recruit potential candidates for the 2013-2015 FAWCO Foundation board. The Foundation board includes a President, three Vice Presidents (responsible for Communications, Programs and Fundraising) a Secretary and Treasurer. The goal of the nominating committee is to find a team of committed FAWCO volunteers that want to make a difference in the lives of others. The next FAWCO Foundation board will be elected at the same time as the next FAWCO board so that they serve 2 years together.
Are you interested in a FAWCO Foundation board position or do you have someone you'd like to recommend to the nominating committee? To submit a name for consideration or to request additional information, please contact or send to one of the committee members listed below.
Thanks in advance for your help!
