News You Can Use                         May 2012

The FAWCO Foundation has been partnering with The Friends of Burkina Faso and NEEED (Nimbus, Enfance, Environment, Education et Developpement, a local non-profit organization in Northern Burkina Faso) to provide post-secondary school scholarships to young women in this African country. Once graduating from secondary school, they will be able to continue their studies in midwifery, nursing, primary school teaching or continue on to university.

We would like to thank all the generous donors who answered our request at the Dublin conference to give to this program. Almost $4000 was raised!

If you would like to make a donation in someone's name, please complete the donation process by clicking on the NEEED donate button on our web site "How Can I Donate Page"

Once you have completed the process on PayPal, click on "Return to The FAWCO Foundation Website," here you can download the NEEED Scholarship Donation Certificate.

Thank you for your generosity!

Letter from Foundation President Michele Hendrikse Du Bois to FAWCO Reps
Dear Reps,

I'd like to thank you for taking time to familiarize yourself with The FAWCO Foundation and its programs.  Simply put, we are the philanthropic arm of FAWCO. We listen to what your Clubs are passionate about and provide them with avenues to achieve their philanthropic goals.

We have just returned from a very exciting and fulfilling FAWCO Conference in Dublin, Ireland.  If you attended the conference, you know the Foundation Night was full of color and excitement as the rainbow led to a big pot of gold for The Foundation with the "Over the Rainbow" event raising more than $36,000 for Foundation Grants, Awards, Projects and Programs!

The Foundation is extremely grateful for the donation of stays at vacation homes and B&Bs, a Ferragamo bag, a Ferrari Jacket and the many silent auction items. We are equally grateful for to all those that bid on items! A big "Thank You" to everyone involved for your generosity.

Over 100 balloons were popped in the "Rainbow Lucky Dip" where everyone walked away with a special something. The four leaf clover charms brought luck to those that wore them.  The "Luck of the Irish" held true as members of the AWC Dublin won the emerald ring raffle and Friendship Quilt raffle.

The funds raised at Foundation Night will help support the programs that your Clubs have told us are important to them.  Each year, we offerEducation Awards for our members, the children of members, and in one case, the grandchild of a member.  Our Development Grant projects are submitted to us by the Clubs.

Your Clubs' donations also support a program to educate young women in Burkina Faso. This program is called NEEED (Nimbus, Enfance, Environnement, Education et Développement). For a relatively small amount (between $2,500 and $5,000) we can pay for their entire degree in Teaching, Nursing, or midwifery (including their books and room and board for the entire 1-3 years).

As we enter the final year of fundraising for the FAWCO-wide Water Target Program, we are thrilled to announce that we have already exceeded our goal! We will continue to collect funds through 2012 adding to the number of wells we are providing for families in Cambodia. In addition to fundraising, we hope to increase awareness about water issues. Through the remainder of 2012 we want to increase our total Club participation in the Water Target Program.  How close to 100% participation can we get? If your Club is participating any anyway (raising funds for Tabitha - Cambodia - WELLS FOR CLEAN WATER, supporting a local water organization or sponsoring water awareness programs) we want to hear from you! Contact Anne van Oorschot, Target Water Program Chair,
, for more information on how your Club can get involved or to share your successes!

The Foundation has done so much for so many around the world. Your Club can be part of this success.  Let us know what we're doing right, how we can improve and what programs are important to your Club.  Remember, The Foundation's motto is: Your projects, your passions, your Foundation!
