On March 21, FAWCO’s Target Team announced our Target Project – Health for 2020-2022:
S.A.F.E. (Safe Alternatives for FGM Elimination), a project of HOPE for Girls and Women, Tanzania.
The project will
- support Safe Houses for girls fleeing forced female genital mutilation (FGM) in the Mara region of Tanzania;
- provide healthcare and psychosocial counseling for girls and women who have experienced FGM;
- provide community sensitization through outreach programs and introduce Alternative Rites of Passage as an empowering alternative to FGM;
- offer income-generating opportunities for women and girls and access to the National Health Insurance Fund plan.
FGM is a practice that has far-reaching consequences for girls’ and women’s physical and mental health. The Health Team is looking forward to collaborating with the Target team to raise awareness about FGM and the work of the Target Project.
We invite you to watch this video in which HOPE founder Rhobi Samwelly introduces the S.A.F.E. project.
