FAWCO Clubs Participate in We Came By Choice
In June, the Target Program and the Human Rights Team's new FAWCO Refugee Task Force paired to promote the We Came By Choice initiative honoring those in our communities who have made the difficult choice to flee their homes. Many thanks to the clubs that participated.
Heidelberg IWC wrapped up their series of three events with A Walk Through the Night, along the Neckar River in Heidelberg. They also raised a total of €260 for the Target Program, participated in an Eid celebration and had a book discusion. The group spent a special evening discussing When the Moon is Low and Skyping with the author, Nadia Hashimi. Taking a break from campaigning for Congress, Nadia answered questions and talked about the book, writing, refugees, her life, and what it's like on the campaign trail. Overall, a fantastic experience for the HIWC members who attended. Thank you Nadia!
What an amazing day for the AWC Amsterdam Team and what a privilege to have taken part in the 10km 2018 Night of the Refugees Walk. As of this moment, more than 23,956 families will be able to recieve medical and psychiatric help as well as the possibility of starting a new life due to the Walk.
FAUSA Houston co-hosted a panel discussion on Vulnerability of the Displaced with the Zonta Club of Houston and A 2nd Cup, a social enterprise coffee shop. The panel addressed the vulnerability of refugees to trafficking, along with updates on current US immigration issues. An audience of approximately 80 people actively engaged the panelists with questions for over two hours.
Members of AIWC Cologne met to share a Syrian meal and discuss
A Hope More Powerful Than The Sea, in recognition of World Refugee Day. Conversation touched on the inhumanity of the smugglers and pirates, the strength of the main character, and the immigrant situation in Europe, the US and Australia.
